Welcome to Next Top Mom!

Many of us have had great parents.  I always knew that I did, but even still, people throughout my life have always asked me if I knew how lucky I was.  Thanks to my generous Mama and my wonderful Dad, I had a very happy childhood.  I certainly had my struggles, but most of them I brought on myself.  Mom and Dad worked hard to make sure that we were very well taken care of and loved.  They were genuinely interested in our lives and our perspectives.

While they created perfect holidays, they made it clear that the ins and outs of everyday life were where you built the foundation for our family. We had breakfast and dinner together everyday.  Mom cooked delicious food- most everything from scratch.  Dad drove us to school, 45 minutes away, before he drove himself to work, in the opposite direction another 45 minutes, at least.  They were happy to have us as a major focus in their lives.  My sister and I never doubted that they loved us.

I always understood that they worked hard for our family, but I don’t think I had any idea until it was my turn to assume the roll of Mom.  One of the shocks during my first few months as a mom was how hard it was to be a parent and to sacrifice for another person.  They had always made it look so easy.

There are a few parts about my new job description that have come easily, but there are many that I stumble through.  My goal is to become the best mom that I can be.  I think we all as new moms have certain areas where we feel that we fall short.  Obviously, we aren’t perfect and part of the goal is to recognize and accept that we aren’t.  We can’t be perfect, but we can get better.  My Mom was a great mom – a Top Mom.

Liz and I created this site to share our experiences and to invite you to join in our journey through motherhood.  We hope that you will get involved and share with us your tips and ideas as we share ours so together we all can be the Next Top Moms.
