According to The Coupon Clippers and I Heart Publix, this weekend is a great weekend to buy multiple copies of the newspaper. There are going to be 5 coupon inserts. Normally there are just two. So, I will be buying many for myself- at least 6, maybe 8. I’m really excited about some of the coupons- Nestle’s chocolate chips, lots of Publix coupons which can be matched with manufacturer’s coupons and some Green Giant coupons for 50 cents. At Publix, some Green Giant frozen veggies are $1 right now so I’ll be able to get frozen veggies for free, if they match up. Remember, those $0.50 coupons double at Publix, so they are worth $1! Obviously, I will buy one paper first and check that there are tons of coupons in it that I like before I buy 8, so I suggest you do the same.
If you want to have an idea of what is likely to be in the paper, you can check out the calendar at The Coupon Clippers. Remember, there are usually some variation from region to region.
Ok, regarding buying the paper… You want to buy the paper as inexpensively as possible, because each dollar you pay for your coupons is a dollar that cuts into the money you are supposed to be saving. So, if you live in Atlanta and read the AJC, print out a bunch of these coupons. These are Kroger coupons, but remember they are also accepted at most Publix grocery stores. If the cashier doesn’t recognize them, tell him that it is a Kroger coupon for the AJC and is treated as a competitor coupon. Of course, if you have friends, family or neighbors who get the paper but don’t clip coupons, ask them if you could have their coupon sections. I have a neighbor who is quite happy to give me her coupons. I love it!
Most people just throw them away.
Remember, that Sunday and Monday are great days to shop at Publix because their newspaper ad has a penny coupon that you can redeem only on those days. If you buy more than $10 worth of items (before you use coupons), you can get a mystery publix item for 1 penny. It is the same item at all the Publix stores for each week, but it is usually something that is a Publix brand basic pantry item. In the past couple of months, I have gotten paper towels, toilet paper, frozen pizza, apple juice, cookies- all things that I would love to keep on hand anyway. I try to break up my shopping into a couple of trips so that I can get a couple of the penny items. You can only get one penny item per transaction. Some stores will allow you to do two transactions in a row, one at a time. Other stores don’t like that. It doesn’t hurt to ask. If you have any questions while you are at the store, go straight to customer service. They are quite friendly.
Has anyone started reading iheartpublix.com, iheartsavingmoney.com or any other coupon website? Has you tried using coupons yet? If you aren’t sure where to start, read this article at iheartpublix.com on frequently asked questions and then this article on coupon lingo. Then, read this to find out about the very best deals at Publix this weekend. Here Michelle lists all the available coupons and picks the one that will give the very best price. You aren’t going to be able to get the very best deal on each one because it depends on what you already have and what you are able to print out, but she will tell you where you can find the coupons, which is fantastic.
Any questions?
